General Information: La Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica (Spanish Honor Society), sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese (AATSP), is a national organization for high school students who study Spanish or Portuguese.
Purpose: To recognize high achievement in Spanish and Portuguese by students in secondary schools and to promote a continuity of interest in Hispanic Studies. Qualifications: Must be currently enrolled in Spanish 3 or higher at LHS and have a GPA of 3.5 in Spanish and an overall GPA of 3.0. Chapter: The LHS Asturias Chapter was established in January 2016. The sponsor is Jessica Swemke, a member of AATSP. |

Requirements for membership
If you don't meet the above requirements, you may still be considered for membership. Please attach a statement to your application explaining your situation.
Application Process
- Sign up to attend the Spanish Honor Society meeting which will be held in Sra' Swemke's room (206) during WIN on Tuesday, November 27, 2018.
- Application is due to Sra. Swemke no later than Tuesday, December 11, 2018
- The World Language Department Faculty will review the applications.
- Applicants will be notified through their Spanish teacher.
- Applicants must submit a plan for service hours to Sra. Swemke by December 18. Sra. Swemke will review the plans and give feedback before candidates may begin working on their service hours.
- All service hours (4 hours) must be completed by the end of February in order to be inducted into the Spanish Honor Society in April (tentative date is April 24, 2019).
- An $8 initiation fee (for first year members) must be paid by December 18, 2018. (cash or checks payable to Lincoln High School) - Turn in payment to Sra. Swemke in Room 206
Induction Ceremony
Attendance at the induction ceremony on Wednesday, April 24 is required of ALL active SHH members as well as new members to be inducted.
Expectations of Inducted Members
In order to maintain membership in the Sociedad Honoraria Española, students must:
Failure to meet these expectations may result in a warning, probation and removal from the Spanish Honor Society.
- be currently enrolled in a LHS Spanish class
- maintain Spanish GPA of 3.5 and an overall GPA of 3.0
- complete activity and 4 service hours in Spanish each semester
- attend meetings and annual induction ceremony for new members
- maintain a behavioral record free from suspension, instances of academic dishonesty, and/or a pattern of inappropriate behavior
- meet all deadlines and pay any required dues
Failure to meet these expectations may result in a warning, probation and removal from the Spanish Honor Society.
